Is the coronavirus outbreak is terrifying you?

Ayurveda, the traditional science says ‘’Swasthsaya swastha rakshanam ‘’, meaning a healthy lifestyle can prevent the so-called dreadful diseases of the universe. If you have healthy lifestyle and good immune system the body can attack and kill the virus of any range.

The outbreak of coronavirus is causing lot of panic as the infection spreads like any other flu and almost kills. It’s more likely in people with

cardiopulmonary diseases and compressed immune system. Specific symptoms like

• Running nose and sore throat

• Persistent cough

• Severe headache

• High fever with breathing difficulty

• Multi organ failure

The infection spreads from human to human but affects people with less immune system to fight the upper respiratory infections.

Our ministry of Ayush also has the same view and asks us to follow some few steps to prevent the dreadful disease. It says as follows:

In the wake of the Covid 19 outbreak, entire mankind across the globe is suffering. Enhancing the body’s natural defence system (immunity) plays an important role in maintaining optimum health.

We all know that prevention is better than cure. While there is no medicine for COVID-19 as of now, it will be good to take preventive

measures which boost our immunity in these times.

Ayurveda, being the science of life, propagates the gifts of nature in maintaining healthy and happy living. Ayurveda’s extensive knowledge base on preventive care, derives from the concepts of “Dinacharya” - daily regimes and “Ritucharya” - seasonal regimes to maintain healthy life.

It is a plant-based science. The simplicity of awareness about oneself and the harmony each individual can achieve by uplifting and maintaining his or her immunity is emphasized across

Ayurveda’s classical scriptures.

So, one should improve the immunity of the body which helps to eliminate or neutralize

any virus that invades the healthy cell. The following four steps helps to fight against and prevent oneself from the virus attack.

1. Water: Drink adequate water. Do not allow your throat to dry. Keep sipping hot water throughout the day. Around 7 to 8 glasses a day will keep you hydrated.

Squeeze a lemon to 1 litre of water, add tulsi leaves 3 to 4, mint leaves 3 to 4 and neem leaves 3 to 4 and drink throughout the day. This helps to detox the body as well as helps to clear the upper respiratory tract.

2. Exercise: Yoga and pranayama can help to clear the doshas accumulated and

keep your body fit.

3. Rest: Give your body adequate sleep and rest. If you all already prone to upper respiratory infections then avoid travelling and use mask when you go out of the house. Sleep during night for 7 hours can help your body to digest the food you have and there by improves your immunity.

4. Diet: This plays a very important role in keeping the doshas in balanced state.

One should avoid

• Junk food

• Fried items

• Processed food

Take proper nutritious food, homemade fresh and hot food.
